In this column, I go through the night’s NHL games and give my reads solely based on lines, odds, betting trends, and how I perceive others perceive the game. It’s the reading of all lines, and I try to keep a free-flowing, train-of-thought approach. The purpose of these reads is to find an edge either in DFS, actual picks, or both. Sometimes, no edge exists — or simply can’t be found. I make it a point to note that, as well. As always, please do your own research and due diligence and play responsibly.
CGY/MON – A beautiful move on the point total odds to the under has me leaning toward a low-scoring game with a decent amount of confidence — so, in a Showdown, I’ll be using at least one goalie and I will go with two if the ML and PL odds agree. They do in the sense that the game shows that it should be close, but I would like to take advantage of the moving odds pointing at MON — not necessarily moving toward them, but pointing in their direction. Because I’m breaking away from a close game, this could be 3-1/4-1 MON where, either way, I’m going with the Canadiens’ goalie with 1-2 skaters from CGY.
