We’ve reached the end. Technically, not the end of the regular season, but the end of the competitive portion of the regular season. Because, when next week arrives, we may not have a clue as to which team will even show up on the field.
Therefore, it is critical to make up as much ground as possible in Week 16, both for us against-the-spreads and the teams still fighting for playoff berths.
Of course, just because a team needs to win a game or two does not necessarily mean it will happen. But, if we look to the overall landscape of the season as it approaches its close, we can paint an estimated picture of what will appear.
Certain teams that have been outstanding for the duration of the season are no worse for wear based on one or two bad outings, while other teams have fought their way into the playoff race and might actually belong in the hunt.
As always, it is our job to decipher which team fits which characteristic, and it is where we can find our advantage.

Washington Redskins at Tennessee Titans
The Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans are currently the eighth seed in their respective divisions. Neither team would be eliminated with a loss on Saturday.
I’m not sure which of the above statements is more ridiculous. Both are true.
A few weeks ago, I sketched out the path through which the Titans needed to travel if they wanted to make a serious push for a playoff berth. Perfectly, they followed this path and now find themselves with relative control of their own destiny. Not complete. But Tennessee’s fate is largely in its own hands.
Washington has a little tougher of a road ahead, but the non-conference element of Saturday’s matchup actually leads to next week’s game being the more important of its final two. Therefore, it can help itself with a win, but not be devastated with a loss.
Again, it is somewhat unbelievable that these two teams and their wild last few weeks are even in this position, let alone together as they enter a nationally televised game.
