Opening weeks continues with every team in action on Wednesday. There will be a lot of different options when making your roster. Almost every team has pitched their ace already so #2 and #3 starters will take the hill. Last night we saw Jake Arrieta and Justin Verlander have strong outings. The Yankees lineup looked to have some life as they battled the Rays at the Trop. There will be a ton of action today so lets get to it.
Projected Low-Scoring Games
Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets – Big Sexy (Bartolo Colon) makes his return to Citi Field to square off with Jason deGrom. In the last two seasons (2015, 2016) Colon was 13-8 at Citi Field. At his age that is a solid record especially for some of the struggles the Mets show on offense from time to time. Colon shouldn’t win this game but it should be a decent outing in his season debut at Citi Field. deGrom is like his counterpart Syndergaard: hard not to pick him when he takes the mound. Jose Reyes is a career .413 hitter against Colon. Duda and Cespedes both have hit above .500 against Colon.
Targets: deGrom, Reyes
Pittsburgh Pirates @ Boston Red Sox – The biggest move this offseason was the Red Sox getting Chris Sale. Today, he makes his debut for Boston. Sale should have a big year with the Red Sox lineup giving him run support…as long as the Red Sox don’t put him in any throwback uniforms. The Pirates are putting a young pitcher on the mound to face the Sox. Looking at the Red Sox lineup in game one, it was a lot less intimating than last year’s. I expect the Red Sox to win but will be surprised if they explode for runs on Wednesday.
Targets: Sale, Hanley Ramirez, Jackie Bradley Jr.
