Verlander shines in his debut for the Houston Astros as they go on to win their 6th game in a row. Strasburg came out and did what Strasburg did, shut the Marlins down. Giancarlo hasn’t homered since September 4th, I hope he can break out of this slump. The Yankees have been causing on the way to the top of the division but blew a game late to the Orioles as Manny Machado hit his 3rd walk of home run in as many weeks. Arch rival Boston didn’t know how to swing a bat last night. Their offense has been terrible of late, probably because they don’t have apple watches in the dug out any more. Well the Red Sox came back in the bottom on the 9th last night and then decided to play 10 more innings. Hanley said he finally had enough and hit a bloop single to score Betts and end the game.
There’s a full slate of games today with some big names on the mound. Also NFL season opens tomorrow, make sure you are following all of Mario’s picks here on Sporfolio.
Low-Scoring Plays
Toronto Blue Jays @ Boston Red Sox- This game went 19 innings last night, each bullpen is taxed and the players are exhausted. Doug Fister takes the mound for the Red Sox who was great in his last start vs. the Yankees, and has thrown other good games as late-a complete game one hitter. The Blue Jays are last for a reason, I expect them to roll over in this game and not do anything. If Fister can make it deep into this game the Red Sox will win. If they have to turn it over to the bullpen earlier than the 6th inning then watch out. A fully rested bullpen for Boston is questionable enough. Boston’s offense is back to where it was most of this season so they will win this game with 3 or 4 runs.
Targets: Fister, Moreland
San Francisco Giants @ Colorado Rockies- Johnny Cueto takes the mound for the the Giants, who is an interesting play. The Rockies have fire power especially at home. However defeating Cueto will not be easy by any means. His record is only the way it is because he has no offense to back him up. Kyle Freeland- the Rockies pitcher- might be the most under valued play of the day. The Giants are terrible, Sandoval is 0 for his last 35, and not speaking to the media. This is all after how he says his heart was always in San Fran its where he belongs. No Sandoval, you’re just fat and suck at baseball now. Anyways, Freelands record isn’t the best, and you would like for his WHIP to be lower, but at home against the Giants, I don’t think you can pass him up today.
Targets: Freeland, Story
High-Scoring Plays
New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles-Sonny Gray hasn’t been spectacular since coming to the Yankees, at least not what I expected him to be. The Orioles are able to rake look for Gray to have a rough day at Camden Yards. The only player hotter than Machado has to been Stanton. Machado is a play that I love today, the Yankees will probably try to dance around him, but going after Jones, or Trumbo won’t be easy either. Look for the Orioles to have a big day today.
Targets: Machado, Trumbo, Davis
Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox- Cleveland has won 13 in a row, you have to think they will lose at one point and I don’t see it happening against the White Sox. Carrasco is the a great pitcher that should be able to man handle the Sox. I would stack as many Indians as possible as they should rope the White Sox for their 14th in a row.
Targets: Encarnacion, Carrasco
Undervalued Plays
McCullers Jr.-HOU-SP- McCullers is very under valued as the Astros take on the Mariners. The Astros have won 6 in a row, they should get their 7th today. McCullers teams up with Freeland could have great games for pitchers will allow you to take a ton of high valued batters.
Moreland-BOS-1B-Moreland has been playing well since the coming back after some time off. He is either driving in the runs or scoring them. The Red Sox won’t score a lot today but if they do it will be because of Moreland.
Odor-TEX-2B-Odor isn’t hitting for average this year, but he is still mashing the ball. He is due for a big game, as he is one of the only Texas batters that has showed up this year.
