Not many stories coming out of the league last night, Judge struck out again, and the Yankees are now 5 games behind the Red Sox in the standings. You have to think Judge is going to get it going again at some point again and start to put up giant numbers again. Since the All-Star Break he is batting .191 and is dead last in the league in strikeouts. It’s not a good look for the rookie he could use some veteran leadership right now. The Yankees don’t have that though so we shall see.
We have a small slate of games today so it will be important to pick the right games to score in.
Low-Scoring Plays
L.A. Dodgers @ Pittsburgh Pirates- This is the best pitching matchup on the day Alex Wood vs. Gerrit Cole. Gerrit Cole’s record isn’t what it normally is however he is still a great pitcher. Beat the Dodgers and won’t be easy but at home I like the Pirates in this game. The Dodgers are unreal but they can’t be this good, no team has ever been this good. They are due for a loss especially Alex Wood who is 14-1 on this year. I wouldn’t go crazy with Pirates hitters, but Gerrit Cole will be my play.
Targets: Cole, McCutchen
Milwaukee Brewers @ San Francisco Giants- The Brewers should dominate this game as they have a great pitcher on the mound, and a solid lineup. Davies is 14-6 on the year for the Brewers and playing the Giants who are less than stellar. Shaw- the Mayor of Ding Dong City- is having a break out year and is a play that I absolutely love today.
Targets: Davies, Shaw, Walker
High-Scoring Plays
Arizona Diamondbacks @ New York Mets- Gsellman gets the call for the Mets who is terrible. Stack as many Diamondback players as you can, the Mets lost again last night are are 1-6 in their past two series. deGrom took the loss last night, no shot Gsellman is able to get the Diamondbacks out in this game. Goldschmidt should be the lock in your line up and try to build around him.
Targets: Goldschmidt, Owings
Oakland Athletics @ Baltimore Orioles- The Orioles are hot and are coming up the standings to make the play offs. Manny Machado is the best player in baseball right now with Trout. I didn’t know why the Orioles were buyers at the deadline I thought they were finished. But that is why I write a blog and don’t manage a baseball team. Regardless Machado is a player like Goldschmidt that I would build around in your line up today. We saw him hit three homers a couple of nights ago, he can do it again today.
Targets: Machado
Extra-Innings
The Boston- Cleveland Series is an interesting one to me. These two teams usually go at it when they play and they are high scoring games. The Red Sox have been the best team in the MLB in August at a 14-3 record. However I am still not convinced they are all that dangerous. Great pitching but the bullpen can be iffy and who knows with the batting line up. The Indians are a team that I love are coasting under the radar as everyone wants to talk about the major market teams. However because of the Red Sox pitching the game could go low. I think it will be high scoring but I am not willing to risk my entire line up on this game.
