Welcome to the show Devers! The young 3rd baseman for the Boston Red Sox made his debut a couple of weeks ago but he had the biggest hit of his life last night. Down one with Chapman on the mound, Devers took Chapman deep, and the Red Sox would eventually win the game. It was the first home run Chapman has allowed this year and the first home run to a lefty in 6 years! The Red Sox couldn’t get the win for Sale again, but it was a good win and are now 5.5 games up in the division.
We have a 11 games today so let’s break them down.
Low-Scoring Plays
Houston Astros @ Arizona Diamondbacks- Zack Greinke is the top pitcher on the day, as the pitching card isn’t that great. Greinke has had success against the Astros holding them to a collective average of .243. However he has not had success against Altuve who is looking to win MVP this year. Altuve has hit .500 off of Grienke with a home run. However I still enjoy Greinke will still have a great game here and should be a lock in the top of your lineup.
Targets: Greinke, Goldschmidt
Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs- The Reds are not a great team as they are in last in the NL Central. Quintana gets the call for the Cubs who is 2-2 on the year with the Cubs. I love him in this game as he should dominate like he did in his first start for them. The Cubs are in a tight race for the division lead as every game is now important. They have the experience to win it all obviously and I think that experience will help them through this stretch and help them win the division.
Targets: Quintana, Bryant
High-Scoring Plays
New York Mets @ New York Yankees- The Yankees had a tough series versus Boston as they are now 5.5 back. Luckily for them they are facing the Mets who are throwing Montero in this game. Montero doesn’t have the power fast ball that other pitchers do that are blowing past Judge high in the strike zone. Look for Judge to have a big game here as he should get his timing back and explode. Hicks is also playing out of his mind right now and is a play that I love.
Targets: Judge, Hicks, Sanchez
Cleveland Indians @ Boston Red Sox- The Red Sox have been hot, as everyone in their line up is hitting. Doug Fister takes the mound for them who isn’t great. Look for each side to score in this one. I like Boston as they are red hot in August and going home for this series. Benintendi is playing out of his mind, Nunez is still roping the ball. and Betts has even elevated his play. I don’t think Indians will be rocked in this one I think they will score as well but I like Boston to win this one.
Targets: Benintendi, Nunez
Extra-Innings
Stanton has been mashing the ball as he now has 10 home runs in the last 11 games. Over the last week he is hitting .333 with 6 home runs. He is a play that I love against the Giants today as he should continue this pace of home run hitting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hits 60+ home runs this year. We haven’t seen a hitter like Stanton since A-Rod or Bonds and it is great to see and great for baseball. Stanton is expensive but he is worth it.
