We’ve seen some tremendous offense in the first three weeks of the 2020 season, and it leads to everyone both looking for more but also approaching games with caution. The over-under point totals are starting to creep up, but there is still value to be found.
A Note from Mario: Week 3 saw a loss with a 1-2 record — although a slight loss in the one game, at that. I will continue to provide these picks as I see fit, but please do your research and play responsibly.
In the world of daily fantasy roster construction, ‘stacking’ players from the same team can often lead to big results. In this column of games to target in Week 4, Luke and Mario will give their thoughts on a few games that are worth watching for fantasy purposes, and whether they like the value or feel the game is getting too much attention.
Luke’s Top Games to Watch
Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals
It is hard to imagine that with all of the talented teams in the main slate this week, one of my favorite games to stack is going to be between the Jaguars and the Bengals. Last Thursday, we saw pretty much the worst that Jacksonville had to offer when they played the Dolphins, and it was bad. With that said, just one week earlier we saw the potential upside in this Gardner Minshew offense when they torched the Titans defense for 480 yards of offense and 30 points. The Titans’ defense is not necessarily elite, but they are definitely better than the Bengals’ unit, so it is by no means impossible to see the Jaguars get back on track offensively this week against a defense that ranks 24th in the league in yards allowed. The extra few days of preparation certainly don’t hurt our expectations either.
Whenever I have a strong feeling about one offense, my immediate reaction is always to see if there is enough appeal in the other offense to make it a worthwhile game to stack. In this case, the appeal in the Bengals side doesn’t really come from a place of effectiveness, but more the pure volume. Joe Burrow has attempted at least 36 passes in all three games this season, and in the only game in which the Bengals ever trailed significantly, he attempted an incredible 61 passes. Knowing that we can count on them to throw the ball that many times almost guarantees that at least one guy in the offense returns very good value. Their matchup with a Jaguars defense that has allowed the second-most net-yards-per-pass-attempt should give extra value to all that volume in our sneaky pick for a shootout this week.
Seattle Seahawks at Miami Dolphins
This game has obvious appeal to many fantasy players, and it stems mostly from the fact that Russell Wilson has been unstoppable through three weeks, and the Seahawks’ defense seemingly cannot keep any team from marching down the field at will. While that is all good and well — and the reason why we always love Seahawks games — I simply cannot
