For as much value as we know exists because of the drastic shift in perception following one game for each team, there aren’t always bargain-basement plays that make it into our lineup. Instead, we also see some nice discounts on players who would have otherwise been considered high-end options. We will certainly buy into them at a lower salary.
Based on our expected Week 2 DFS game flow analysis and Week 2 DFS Overview published earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.
Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 2 Plays:
Quarterback
Patrick Mahomes – There’s almost never a writeup needed for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but we’ll give one anyway. The superstar had a more human performance than we’re used to seeing — 226 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception — but the major storyline from his Opening Night outing was the lack of help he received from his pass-catchers. To be blunt, it was rock bottom for the offense. Not only were there egregious drops that stopped the momentum of drives, but one directly turned into a game-changing — and arguably game-losing — interception returned for a touchdown. Mahomes should have his top target back on the field in tight end Travis Kelce but, even if Kelce is out or limited, the receiving corps cannot and will not play as poorly as it did in Week 1.
Geno Smith – We were always leery of Geno Smith entering his second full season as the Seattle Seahawks’ starting quarterback where his numbers were almost certainly going to regress from their career-highs in 2022. His poor start to this season was, therefore, not a surprise. What happens now? Most likely, Smith starts to trend back in the right direction, even if he doesn’t achieve the high watermarks of last year. This starts with a matchup against a Lions defense that allowed the most yards in the league last season.
