As we always write in Week 1 articles, value is everywhere. In this particular case, it’s not the value found in ‘sleepers,’ but in the typical high-end talent who has decreased in expectation since the close of the 2022 season. As a whole, we are aggressive with buying into players on a rebound, and it shows with our selections for the weekend.
Based on our expected Week 1 DFS game flow analysis and Week 1 DFS Overview published earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.
Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 1 Plays:
Quarterback
Justin Herbert – Pretty much from the moment Justin Herbert took over at quarterback for the Chargers, he established himself as one of the top talents across the league. We have always been high on Herbert, but the arrival of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore could be the piece that puts Herbert and this Chargers offense over the top. Moore is widely considered one of the top offensive coaches around the league, and the buzz around his offense with the weapons the Chargers have on-hand is palpable. When you mixelite quarterback play, high-end talent at the playmaker positions, and great coaching, the results are usually fantastic. Our expectations are sky high for Herbert this season, and expect a huge start to the campaign againt a Dolphins defense that struggled mightily last season against the pass and is without their key addition of Jalen Ramsey.
Ryan Tannehill – It’s simple. With the exception of the year when Ryan Tannehill was absolutely exploding — 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 2020 — he is generally overlooked. Not by us. We are buying into the Tennessee Titans to rebound this year, and that would likely require a solid season from the quarterback. The Titans have a potentially touch matchup against the New Orleans Saints’ defense, but Tennessee has a new weapon in town in DeAndre Hopkins — who happens to be one of the most talented wide receivers of this generation. If you’re looking for the ‘home run play,’ Tannehill is it.
