Salaries are finally starting to catch up with players’ potential, but there are still plenty that are lagging behind for one reason or another. We found ourselves paying up for a few names in big spots, but it was possible because of the savings we were able to find elsewhere.
Based on our expected Week 5 DFS game flow analysis and Week 5 DFS Overview published earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.
Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 5 Plays:
Quarterback
Justin Fields – We have been as critical as anyone about the struggles from quarterback Justin Fields, but it would be foolish to cast him aside every single week without taking a deeper look. After all, we would miss games where his setup is excellent. Games like a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings’ frighteningly bad defense and extremely effective offense. If the Vikings come out and dominate the Chicago Bears, then Fields will have plenty of opportunities to take aim at this weak defensive group. If Minnesota lags behind and actually trails in the game, then it is likely because Fields delivered early.
Tom Brady – We rarely need to give a full analysis as to why Tom Brady would be one of our top picks for a given weekend, but we will always note when there is a little more at-play than simply the numbers. Brady is in the media’s spotlight again because of his personal life, and a return to the field is a great way to put everything aside and calm the questions — at least for a few hours on a Sunday. Brady also just put forth a valiant effort in a comeback that was not going to materialize, and he has a much more friendly matchup ahead against the Atlanta Falcons than he did when facing the Chiefs on national television.
