In recent weeks, salaries started to vary so wildly that we were forced into making ‘stars-and-scrubs’ lineups by default. This was not necessarily a problem, as Week 3 was easily our most successful of the young season. This week, it appears as if a leveling occurred with player salaries – similarly to Opening Day – where it is almost unavoidable to end with a balanced lineup.
Based on our expected Week 4 DFS game flow analysis performed earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.
Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 4 Plays:
Quarterback
Cam Newton – Whether or not the Patriots’ defense remains one of the worst in the league – currently, it ranks last in both yards and points allowed – the opportunity for opposing quarterbacks to thrive is ever-present. Basically, with New England’s offense consistently putting points on the scoreboard, other teams will be forced to take to the air – this is common for many teams, but the Patriots basically never stop scoring. The volume and matchup are borderline perfect for Cam Newton on Sunday, and his ability to rush for a touchdown makes him arguably a must-start if you can afford his salary – which is modest considering his upside. Newton has not played to his previous ability, to date, but Week 4 is as good as time as any for a breakout.
Joe Flacco – If we are looking strictly at returning value for an investment, Joe Flacco might be the best play of the day. He had one of the worst performances in recent memory by any quarterback during his Week 3 trip to London, during which he threw two interceptions, tallied only 28 passing yards, and was benched. As a result, his price has plummeted to below last year’s minimum for a quarterback. Even if his matchup with the Steelers remains low-scoring, he will deliver enough fantasy value to justify his use, as well as allowing significantly more roster flexibility elsewhere.
