As stated in last week’s column, the relatively ‘average’ salary structure from Opening Day appears to be a thing of the past, as most prices are starting to move rapidly on only two – in some cases, one – games’ worth of information. These quick dips – especially for the superstars – are perfect buying opportunities, and it leads us, again, to a week in which the ‘stars-and-scrubs’ approach will largely be utilized.

Based on our expected Week 3 DFS game flow analysis performed earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.

Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 3 Plays:

Quarterback

Matthew Stafford – Week 3 is somewhat odd for quarterbacks. A few of the best – namely, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees – either have a poor matchup against a tough defense – Brady and possibly Brees – or a game flow that goes against them – Rodgers likely won’t have to throw too often to beat the Bengals and, if he does, it isn’t a good sign. This leaves Matthew Stafford as our top choice at the quarterback position on Sunday. If Stafford only needed 122 yards on 21 attempts to outpace the nonexistent Giants offense in Week 2, imagine the increase required to go toe-to-toe with one of the best offenses in he sport. Stafford will be throwing. A lot. And, he won’t even be limited to targeting wide receivers, as the Lions frequently involve their running backs in the passing game and have one of the better receiving tight ends in Eric Ebron. Finally, Atlanta has a tendency to let up on defense at the end of games – forget the Super Bowl, as the Falcons have allowed late, sustained drives to both the Bears and Packers to start the year – and Stafford has a habit of pulling off fourth-quarter heroics.
