As noted in our introduction for our game-by-game analysis, the lighter slate of NFL action on Sunday limits the amount of targets for our fantasy lineups, but increases our conviction in such players. Of course, salary tiers are separated along similar lines, as less competition prevents the costs of players from correcting themselves.
Instead of utilizing an approach that features either stars-and-scrubs or a balanced attack, there are a few targets that have forced our hand into different combinations by virtue of ‘must-play’ statuses. With that, salary is thrown out for these players. Thankfully, there are a few incredibly inexpensive options that help keep our salary requirements in check.

Based on our expected Week 8 DFS game flow analysis performed earlier, we can carry our thoughts into actual lineup positions. The long list of players that fit the requirements set forth by the projected flow of the game was cut dramatically by the requirements set forth by salaries.
Below are Sporfolio’s DFS Week 8 Plays:
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers – We almost always preach that volume is the key to targeting running backs, but the same is true when a quarterback is basically guaranteed to take to the air throughout a contest. Often, matchup dictates such an expected game flow, but Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are an exception. Green Bay is devoid of a running game, and Rodgers already took the team’s last game into his own hands via 56 pass attempts en route to a double-digit win. The fact that little has changed in the Packers’ backfield only strengthens suspicions that Rodgers will continue to control the offense. The great matchup against Atlanta’s secondary – allowing the second-most passing yards in the league – is simply a bonus.
Derek Carr – On the heels of back-to-back underperforming games, Week 8 appears to be the time for Derek Carr to get back on track. He has another favorable matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that has struggled against better offenses, and he should continue to find opportunities to throw. With his team’s defense constantly bleeding points, Carr is forced into passing often as shootouts develop. Since the Raiders’ aerial attack is one of the best in the league, Oakland never hesitates to rely on Carr. We will feel comfortable leaning on him, as well.
