Welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey top stacks column. After a Monday where the NHL followed a holiday shedule we’re back with a six-game slate to worth with for our DFS needs.
Tonight I’m going to lean on Philadelphia in many of my lineups for my tournaments. Tonight the Flyers get a New York Rangers team that has allowed 22 goals over their past six games, in January have a league eighth-worst 3.67 goals against per game, a league third-worst 37.5 shots against per game and are currently mired in a three-game losing streak.
Over their past 10 games the Rangers have a SCA/60 of 33.02 — third-worst in the NHL. Additionally, over their past 10 games the Rangers have a CF% of 45.61 — second-worst in the leauge.
On the other side we have a Philadelphia team that has scored 22 goals over their past five games for league second-best average of 4.40 goals for per game in January. The Flyers are riding a four-game win streak that has seen them score at least five goals in three of those four games. Furthermore, Philadelphia has scored at least one power play goal in four straight games and a total of seven power play goals over the course of their win streak.
Recent notable stats of some Philly skaters:
Claude Giroux: 1 goal, 6 assists (6 power play points) over his past five games
Jakub Vorcek: 7 assists (four power play points) over his past five games
Sean Couturier: 7 goals over his past five games
Shayne Gostisbehere (D) : 2 goals, 2 assists, over his past five games (keep tabs on his status tonight)
Wanye Simmonds: 3 goals, 1 assist over his past five games
Ivan Provorov (D): 3 goals, 4 assists over his past five games
A GPP and cash game option is a Line One Stack. In just over 88 minutes of ice time together Claude Giroux/Sean Couturier/Travis Konecny have a CF% of 55.28 percent with seven goals.
While expensive I do not want to miss out on a Philadelphia power play stack tonight. WAYNE SIMMONDS/SEAN COUTURIER/JAKUB VORACEK/CLAUDE GIROUX/IVAN PROVOROV (Provorov here assumes Gostisbehere is out). Over their past five games the Flyers power play has clicked at a rate of 38.9 percent.
For a line with less ownership we could look to a line two stack of MICHAEL RAFFL/VALTTERI FILPPULA/JAKUB VORACEK for tournaments. Raffl has one goal and one assist over his past two games — but he doesn’t power play time.
Side Note: while we are talking up Philadelphia’s offense an interesting tournament option would be to target the New York Rangers power play. Over their past five games Philadelphia only has a penalty kill rate of 57.1 percent. And while the Flyers have been putting the puck the net at an amazing rate recently, they have allowed 3.20 goals against over their past five games. It’s a risky play as the Rangers have really struggled on offense with only nine goals scored over their past five games.
Tonight I also want to look at
