Welcome to the final week of regular season for the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. It’s hard to believe we’re entering the final stretch of action for NHL DFS. And what better way to end the week with a nice juicy slate of 12 games … of wait, it’s Monday — we only have three games on the slate tonight.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Buffalo Sabres (Toronto, -155, 5.5 over/under)
Montreal Canadiens @ Florida Panthers
Ottawa Senators @ Detroit Red Wings
From those six teams in action I want to whittle it down to two teams I plan on using as the backbone for my roster construction tonight: the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The first team I want plenty of shares of tonight are the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tonight Toronto gets a Buffalo team that has allowed 2.82 goals against per game since the All-Star break and in March allowed 39 goals over the course of 14 games. Over their past 10 games played Buffalo has a SCA/60 rate of 31.3 — fourth-highest in the NHL. Additionally, Buffalo’s HDCA/60 rate over their past 10 games is 13.67 — second-worst in the NHL. We can expect Toronto to get pleny of scoring chances tonight, and quite possibly a good number of them quality scoring chacnes. Since Jan. 1 Buffalo has a xGA/60 of 2.78 — fourth-highest in the NHL. Furthermore, Buffalo is on the second night of a back-to-back — on the second night of back-to-backs Buffalo has allowed a league third-worst 3.24 goals against per game.
On the other end we have
