Tonight I want to start much of my roster construction around the Tampa Lightning vs. New York Islanders game. Since the All-Star break the Islanders have allowed an NHL third-worst 3.52 goals against per game while Tampa Bay has allowed an NHL sixth-worst 3.33 goals against per game. The Islanders have lost three of their past four games but did get a 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Let’s take a quick look at the goals allowed per game by the Islanders over the past four games:
March 15: 7 goals against
March 16: 6 goals against
March 18: 4 goals against
March 20: 1 goal against
Over the past 10 games the Islanders have CF% of 48.55 percent while Tampa Bay has a league fifth-best CF% of 53.59 percent over the past 10 games. Over their past 10 games the Lightning have a SCF/60 of 30.99 — sixth-highest in the leaugue. The Islanders have a league sixth-worst SCA/60 of 30.91 over their past 10 games with a league fourth-worst HDCA/60 13.03 over that same time frame.
Tampa Bay has a GF/60 of 3.51 over the past 10 games — fourth-highest in the NHL — while the Islanders have a league sixth-worst GA/60 of 2.98 over that same time.
Still, I really want shares of the Islanders power play tonight as Tampa has allowed a league second-worst 22 power play goals against since the All-Star break while Islanders have scored a league seventh-best 17 power play goals since the All-Star break.
