Welcome back to the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. It’s great to be back in this space talking hockey after some time away. The season’s end is rapidly approaching and there is still plenty of space for movement in the 2018 NHL playoff race which gives these final few weeks of NHL action a great playoff feel. Tonight we have a seven-game slate to work with for our DFS needs.

Tonight’s Slate:

Boston Bruins @ Carolina Hurricanes (Boston, -140, 5.5 over/under)
Dallas Stars @ Montreal Canadiens (Dallas, -155, 5.5 over/under)
Ottawa Senators @ Tampa Bay Lightning (Tampa Bay, -320, 6 over/under)
Winnipeg Jets @ Nashville Predators (Nashville, -170, 6 over/under)
Colorado Avalanche @ Minnesota Wild (Minnesota, -170, 6 over/under)
Edmonton Oilers @ Calgary Flames (Calgary, -155, 6 over/under)
Los Angeles Kings @ Arizona Coyotes (Los Angeles, -125, 5.5 over/under)

The first team I want to consider when constructing my rosters tonight is the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay has won five straight games and tonight draw an Ottawa team that has allowed a league ninth-worst 3.25 goals against per game since the All Star break. Since the All Star break Tampa Bay has scored a league second-best 3.70 goals for per game and have scored a league second best 16 power play goals.

Over their past 10 games Ottawa has a league second-worst SCA/60 of 33.91 and a league third-worst team save percentage of 90.04 percent. Meanwhile the Lightning have the best team shooting percentage over the past 10 games at 12.35 percent. Additionally Ottawa has a SA/60 of 33.78 over their past 10 games — sixth-worst in the NHL. Ottawa has lost eight of their past 10 games and I expect another loss for the Senators tonight — potentially in a blowout. On top of it all Ottawa is on the second night of a back-to-back. My hot take of the night: Tampa Bay puts up 6+ goals against the Senators.

The Carolina Hurricanes are on the second night of a back-to-back and tonight draw a tough Boston team even with the absences of Patrice Bergeron and Charlie McAvoy (and maybe Torey Krug). The Hurricanes are playing for their playoff lives while Boston will look to keep within an attainable distance of first place in the NHL Atlantic Division.

Since the All-Star break Boston has scored a league seventh-best 3.50 goals for per game, have a 22.4 percent success rate on the power play and have the fourth-best CF% in the NHL over the past 10 games at 55.00 percent. Carolina has also been a nice puck possession team with a league second-best CF% at 56.99 percent over their past 10 games. But I think Boston finds a way to break through tonight against what could potentially be a tired Carolina team. Carolina also had a rough night against the lowly New York Rangers last night with a 6-3 loss.

Over their past 10 games Boston has a SCF/60 of 33.16 — second-best in the NHL. And Boston’s HDCF/60 over their past 10 games of 14.4 is good for fourth-best in the NHL.

For GPPs I’m espeically interested in
