Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. Today we have a small three-game slate to work with for our daily fantasy hockey needs.
Today’s Slate:
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Columbus Blue Jackets (Columbus, -155, 5.5 over/under)
Detroit Red Wings @ Philadelphia Flyers (Philadelphia, -190, 5.5 over/under)
St. Louis Blues @ Calgary Flames (Calgary, -120, 5.5 over/under)
The team I want the most shares of, at least in my cash games, is the Philadelphia Flyers. Tonight the Flyers are home against a Red Wings team that has allowed a league second-worst 3.83 goals agaisnt per game in December. On the road this season Detroit has allowed a league 12th-worst 3.21 goals against per game. Detroit has only two of their past 12 games and over their past 10 games have the worst team save percentage in the NHL at 88.84 percent. We also get Detroit on the second night of a back-to-back. Philadelphia has won six of their past seven games, though did have a dissapointing showing against the Kings on Dec. 18 losing 4-1. But one encourging sign is it looks like Philadelphia’s power play could be heating up with three power play goals over their past two games.

Tonight I am also interested in stacking Columbus skaters. Toronto is on the second day of a back-to-back after playing a 2 p.m. game yesterday — they routed Carolina 8-1 without Auston Matthews. You can see all the goals scored here:
While Columbus looked terrible against Boston (a 7-2 loss) on Monday night — and appeared to actually give up toward the end of the game — they are clearly not as bad as that seven goal embarrassment. But there are red flags here, namely the power play. In December Columbus had a power play success rate of just 13.3 percent (four power play goals on 30 chances) and that 13.3 percent is actually an improvement on their league-worst 10.2 percent success rate on the power play.
Still, over their past 10 games their SCF/60 of 30.96 is the sixth-best in the NHL. Their HDCF/60 of 11.36 over their past 10 games is good for 10th best in the NHL. So we do see nice upside at
