Tonight we have a big 12-game pre-Thanksgiving daily fantasy hockey slate to dig through. There a few teams that jump out right away when scanning the schedule:
Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers
Calgary Flames @ Columbus Blue Jackets
Edmonton Oilers @ Colorado Avalanche
The Pittsburgh Penguins at the New York Rangers could be a very popular DFS game tonight … especially on the New York end as they just keep racking up the goals. On Monday night New York beat Pittsburgh 5-2 and New York increased their NHL league-leading goals per game average to 4.05. The bonus to NY’s five goals was their small ownership percentage on FanDuel:
Derek Stepan: 5.8% — 16.8 FD points
Michael Graber 4.7% — 24.8 FD points
Rick Nash 6% — 28 FD points
I’m not sure if we’ll see those low ownership percentages tonight, but with a 12 game slate we still could get NY skaters with favorable ownership percentages in our GPPs.
The refrain may be getting old, but we’ll once again go to the New York well for our DFS needs tonight. The Rangers lead the league with 4.27 goals per game at home and have a power play clicking at 21.7 percent.
Chris Kreider $6.2K (4G, 8A, 3 PPP, 44 SOG)
Derek Stepan $5.6K (3G, 10A, 4 PPP, 40 SOG)
Mats Zuccarello $5.6K (7G, 7A, 2 PPP, 44 SOG)
Brandon Pirri $3.9K (5G, 5A, 4 PPP, 30 SOG)
(D) Ryan McDonagh $5.1K (13A, 3 PPP, 36 SOG)
round out New York’s first power play unit.
Jimmy Vesey $4.7K (7G, 5A, 3 PPP, 35 SOG)
Kevin Hayes $5.4K (9G, 9A, 1 PPP, 33 SOG)
Mats Zuccarello
make a fine second line GPP stack. And for one-offs you can feel comfortable going with Michael Grabner, Rick Nash, and to save some salary on the blue line, Brady Skjei.
The only problem we really have with New York is that they score from top-to-bottom, so predicting where the goals will come from is difficult – which is why I’ll want a piece of their PP units as Pittsburgh has allowed 13 power play goals this season.
