The Vancouver Canucks are on the second night of a back-to-back and are on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight. We’re seeing Pittsburgh as the healthy favorite with a six over/under in this game. Not including the Tuesday night game, Vancouver had lost two straight games and allowed nine goals over that time. Pittsburgh has won two of their past games.
On the season Pittsburgh has averaged just 2.68 goals per game but that number jumps to 3.13 goals per game at home. In 5v5 situations Pittsburgh has an xGF/60 of 2.53 — ninth-most in the NHL. At home that number jumps to 2.75 — sixth-highest in the league. So we’re seeing some real home/road splits with the Penguins this season. Pittsburgh has a SCF/60 rate of 29.9 which is good for 11th-most in the NHL and their HDCF/60 of 11.57 is also good for 11th-most in the NHL. Keeping with the home/road split theme Pittsburgh’s SCF/60 rate jumps to 32.6 — fifth-highest in the league.
