Welcome back to the daily fantasy hockey morning coffee. We have a big, 13-game slate tonight with plenty of options to dig through and plenty of stackable teams.
Let’s jump right into one of the top games I love for our DFS needs tonight: Ottawa Senators at the Philadelphia Flyers. I want player shares from both sides of this game. The Flyers have given up a league-worst 3.63 goals per game, have allowed 11 power play goals in 16 games and will — most likely — start Steve Mason tonight. Mason’s numbers have been dreadful: 3-5, .880 save percentage, 3.41 GAA. Ottawa makes a nice GPP option tonight as they do come with their fair share of risk — they have only scored 2.20 goals per game this season – but get the great matchup against Philly.
While Ottawa has only scored six goals over their past four games, Philly has allowed 16 goals over their past four games. Ottawa’s shots on goal total is also something that encourages me from a DFS perspective: 33, 34, 29, 33, 36 in a five-game stretch. The concerning thing is the amount of shots coming from low percentage areas (from their 36 shot performance on Sunday):
While a shot chart does not give us the full picture, it does at least give us a picture of where their shots are coming from. Against most other teams tonight, Ottawa wouldn’t even really be on my GPP radar, but we should attack Mason and his .880 save percentage.
Mike Hoffman $5.6K (3G, 4A, 3 PPP, 50 SOG)
Derick Brassard $4.8K (1G, 5A, 1 PPP, 35 SOG)
Bobby Ryan $4.7K (3G, 3A, 2 PPP, 33 SOG)
Mark Stone $5.7K (2G, 4A, 24 SOG)
(D)Erik Karlsson $7.2K (3G, 10A, 3 PPP, 38 SOG)
are my targets from Ottawa’s end.
Philly has scored a league third-best 3.31 goals per game this season and have scored 12 goals over their past four games. They have also scored six power play goals over their past five games on 15 power play chances. We’re going to stack the Philly PP tonight:
Brayden Schenn $5.6K (3G, 7A, 6 PPP, 30 SOG)
Claude Giroux $7.2K (4G, 12A, 10 PPP, 40 SOG)
Wayne Simmonds $7.2K (8G, 7A, 8 PPP, 46 SOG)
Jakub Voracek $7K (7G, 10A, 6 PPP, 61 SOG)
(D) Shayne Gostisbehere $6K (3G, 7A, 5 PPP, 48 SOG)
round out their fist PP unit and will be my top targets on the Flyers’ end tonight.
