Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Daily Fantasy Hockey Morning Coffee. After a Tuesday where we had a full slate of games, we’re back to a series a small slates starting with tonight’s three-game slate.
Tonight’s Slate:
New York Islanders @ Toronto Maple Leafs (Toronto, -180, 6.5 over/under)
San Jose Sharks @ Detroit Red Wings (Detroit, -115, 5.5 over/under)
Philadelphia Flyers @ Washington Capitals (Washinton, -150. 5.5 over/under)
Tonight I want to load up Toronto Maple Leafs players. Tonight the Leafs get an Islanders team on the second night of a back-to-back — and an Islanders team, as we’ve mentioned many times recently, that can allow goals in bunches. In January the Islanders have allowed a league third-worst 3.73 goals against per game (41 goals goals against over 11 games). Over their past 10 games New York has a CF% of just 44.97 percent — second worst in the NHL. New York’s SCA/60 of 36.58 is the worst in the league over their past 10 games and their HDCA/60 of 14.68 is also dead last in the NHL over the past 10 games. In terms of goals against per game on the road, the Islanders have been the worst team in the league with an average of 3.63 goals against per game on the road.
The Maple Leafs have won three of their past four games and over thieir past 10 games have a CF% of 51.18 percent — 10th-best in the league. Toronto has struggled to put the puck in the net this month with an average of just 2.27 goals per game over 11 games in January. But their lack of scoring has not been for a lack of chances as Toronto’s SCF/60 of 34.54 is the second-highest in the NHL over the past 10 games. Additionally, Toronto’s HDCF/60 of 11.96 over their past 10 games is the fifth-best in the NHL over the past 10 games. And with slim pickings on a short slate I like Toronto’s chances on home ice to break through against the Islanders.
